Four Square
Using masking tape or some other system of marking, set up the following court.
The game is played using a light plastic children's ball. The objective is for each play to try and reach square 1 and then stay there as long as possible.
If a player makes a fault then they exit the court and the other players move round to fill their space with a new player entering at square 4. The player who went out joins the end of the queue of entering players.
The winner is the person who holds square 1 for the longest.
The game starts with player 1 serving the ball into any square of their choice.
Our Rules:
- No player may step out of their square
- The ball must always be hit under-hand or flat.
- The ball may only touch the player's hand
- The ball must always bounce once in the receiving square before being returned
- The ball may not go out of the overall square
- Any player breaking one of these rules is out.
- No player can go out on an opening serve. There is always a replay as a result of a fault on the first serve.
I have since discovered that there are official Four Square rules which can be found at the link below. This site also provides some interesting variations.
